The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
I don't know how many years it has been since I read a mystery novel. I used to really enjoy Agatha Christie when I was younger. But at any rate, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
This is a first novel for Mr. Bradley and it's a gem. Little Miss Flavia, our 11 year old master chemist, must help prove her father's innocence. I don't want to write much about the plot...as I may say the wrong thing. I will say, Flavia reminded me a lot of Scout Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird". Not that this book ranks with TKAM, but Flavia's inquisitive mind and brilliant precociousness made her the perfect detective. I'll be watching for #2.
Funny, clever and fun.
PG and 4 stars.
