Thirteenth Child, Patricia C. Wrede

A story about Eff, born the thirteenth child in her family, and because of that is "cursed with bad luck and that she will eventually turn evil." To help protect her from the taunts and more from her extended family, her father decides to move them to the frontier where he will teach magic at a college there.

I really loved Eff, and even more so as she grew up struggling against what she thought she could become. A stong, sweet and shy character who cares deeply for people, especially her twin, Lan. It was also interesting to see how the author changed the history of our country to fit with magic and all that comes with it. It is a fun adventurous story that is only the beginning of what could be a great series.  I give it 4 stars and a PG rating
