A historical fiction novel written about the authors ancestor, Maratha Carrier, a woman who was executed during the Salem with trials. I found it very well done, and although at times it depressed me to read about the conditions in the Colonies during the late 1600's, I felt that the author did a tremendous job of painting a picture of their daily life back then - from the religious climate, to the hardships, to family dynamics. The story is told from the perspective of Martha's daughter, and I loved how she grew though out the story, as well as her discovery of how much her mother and father loved her. A dark, but wonderful story. I give it a PG-13 rating and 4 stars.
