A novel based on the true story of a group of Mormon pioneers who were asked to build a settlement in the four corners area of the US. They had an enormous struggle just getting there, and then were there for the purpose of providing a buffer for other settlements in the area against outlaws and warring Indians - not the most wonderful prospects.
I liked this book a lot, however, it did not captivate me and move me nearly as much as Gerald Lund's other books. I felt that the story lost a little of its life once we got to the pioneer section - the beginning in England was much better. It was a great way to learn the history of this little known expedition though, and I loved the main characters. I give it 3.5 stars and a PG rating
