The first book in this series is A House Divided. The series is fictional history of the Civil War. I think this first book is just laying the foundation of the books to follow. There are about five or six different families and their opinions and emotions that run deep. There are two brothers, one who lives in the south and owns numerous black slaves. The other lives in the North and fights for their freedom. Both brothers have sons that end up in the war, of course on different sides.
You'll read of families in the south who tried to free slaves and the repercussions that they received in doing so and Dan O'Shea who seems indifferent about the war.
A House Divided starts off jumping from family to family and then it seems to pull them all together at the end of the book, leaving you hanging for the next in the series. It starts at 3 stars and ends with 4 and I am anticipating 5 from here on out. It's a PG rating.

i read the first 2 books in the series several years ago and i really enjoyed them. i am not a history buff, it was the subject that i struggled with the most, so i love historical fiction books. i can learn the facts in a more entertaining way! good read!
